A glimpse into the daily life of the village
the experience

After a short drive from the coast, we arrive in Mtakawani, a lush village of coconut palms and banana plantations. Ali, born and raised here, welcomes us with a smile that instantly makes us feel at home, and shows us how breakfast is made in his open-air kitchen - breadfruit, mandazi and chapati fresh from the fire.
We walk shaded paths, taste sweet local fruits and watch the mamas weave makuti, the palm-leaf roofs of Zanzibar. Women turn fresh coconuts into creamy milk while Ali explains the beliefs that shape village life. We end back at his home, sitting in the shade for a lunch rich with coconut and spices - less a visit than an immersion.
